WHAT DOES THE PROCEDURE ENTAIL?

The answer – It depends on your scar and the outcome you’re hoping to achieve! Sometimes pigment is placed in the dermal layer of skin to camouflage an area and sometimes pigment isn’t even needed to achieve a great result. In those cases, needling the area is the best option (similar to microneedling). The camouflage treatments encourage your body to send healing agents (elastin and collagen) to the scars to repair them. The best way to find out is to come in for a free consultation or to contact me. Together we will discuss what’s best for your skin!

DOES IT HURT?

These treatments penetrate the top layer of skin which can cause mild discomfort. However, clients may choose to use numbing cream as long as it does not interfere with scar visibility. This is based on what treatment is being received and scar characteristics. Rest assured that I do everything to make my clients as comfortable as possible! Most of my clients are pleasantly surprised at how easy it is!

WHAT WILL I LOOK LIKE IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE PROCEDURE?

Redness and swelling are normal immediately after the procedure, though most people are able to continue working the same day. In order to maintain the integrity of the treatment, clients are asked to follow aftercare guidelines which will be given to you after the procedure. In the next days and week(s), the redness and swelling will lessen and the treated area may get lighter and/or darker until the pigment settles.

WHEN WILL I BE ABLE TO SEE MY RESULTS?

It is normal for the skin to temporarily darken during the healing process. About 30 days after the procedure, you should have an indication of how your results will look once fully healed.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I TAN?

Your camouflaged area will not tan with the rest of your skin. However, the area will essentially still be camouflaged since the contrast between your tanned skin and the camouflaged area won’t be as noticeable as your tanned skin and the scar/stretch marks without camouflage.

CAN I HAVE THE PROCEDURE IF I’M ALREADY TANNED?

I recommend having the procedure done when your skin is the color it naturally is for most of the year. It is best to match your natural skin tone as much as possible.

CAN I TAN AFTER THE PROCEDURE?

You should avoid sun exposure for at least 21 days after the procedure. After that, your camouflaged area will have the best long term results if you apply high protection sunscreen before sun exposure.

HOW LONG DO THE RESULTS LAST?

If the after care is adhered to, your results can last 5-7 years. Results greatly depend on lifestyle. Fading can be caused by activities like sun exposure, use of Retin A creams (or other products that contain AHA’s, Glycolic or Vitamin A), specific medications which are known to cause increased fading, excessive use of alcohol, or swimming in chlorinated pools.

WHAT IS THE COST OF THE PROCEDURE?

Cost is greatly dependent on the size of the area to be camouflaged and the severity of the scars. I offer free consultations and can give you a price once the area is inspected.

DO YOU USE A LASER FOR TATTOO REMOVAL?

Nope! I use the body’s own process of osmosis to encourage the skin to push the ink out of the skin. The ink is removed from the inside out instead of burning it from the outside in, like lasers do.

*Please be aware that this is an art not a science! Everyone’s skin is different and results can vary from person to person.*
